Waxing Moon, Dog Walks & Soup

It’s now 3 days past the new moon and I’ve begun implementing some of the changes I want to make to my life. First up is increased activity by way of taking the dog for more walks, and spending more time in the back yard throwing balls for him to chase. He needs more activity too, plus he loves the attention and the fun of chasing a grotty tennis ball and I need to get out in the sun a bit more …Vitamin D for strong bones etc. My aim is to take the dog for at least 1 walk every day, but preferably 2 walks each day where possible, as well as increasing the distance we walk each time. I also need to get back into using my weight machines and dumbbells etc to build up my strength. Just tiny steps at first, especially after Winter when I tend to slack off big time, but anything is better than nothing!

Possibly it’s the slightly unseasonably warm weather we’ve had today that’s got me feeling so enthusiastic. Today was Sydney’s warmest August day in 4 years, and reached a lovely 26 deg C. I took the dog for 2 walks today — yay! It’s going to cool down a little by the weekend though, with 22 deg C forecast for Saturday, along with some late showers, followed by cooler weather in the days afterwards. Let’s hope my enthusiasm doesn’t cool down along with the temperature!

Food-wise, I’m going to be eating more home-cooked vegetable soups for lunch — starting with the yummy pumpkin-celery-shallot soup I made today. Basically my soups are made with whatever vegetables I happen to have in the fridge — good to have a variety of different veggies so I don’t get bored with the same thing all the time. I prefer my soups to be drinkable, so whatever veggies are cooked then get liquified and stored for a couple of days supply. All very quick and convenient as well as healthy.

Instead of bread I’ll try to stick with crispbreads and rice cakes most of the time. For between meal snacks I’ll try to stick to protein bars rather than heaps of biscuits, and just have the occasional biscuit with a morning or afternoon cuppa.

I’ve been making a lot of fruit salads lately too — very labour intensive, especially when I don’t get to eat very much of it because the family beats me to it, but at least they’ll be healthy too.

Anyway, that’s the plan — let’s hope I can stick to it this time. :)
