…is the title of a documentary I’ve just heard about which could be describing me if I don’t do something about my weight and overall health and fitness. It’s not that I’m not trying, it’s just that I’m not trying hard enough. I have good intentions but my enthusiasm about exercising never lasts for long enough and diet alone is not enough. I guess I’m looking for a “quick fix” but there isn’t really any such thing …well, not something that will maintain the results long term anyway. I just feel like I haven’t quite found the right combination of diet and exercise that suits me …yet …but I’m getting closer. Surely with all the weird and wonderful things I’ve tried I should be able to come up with the right combination.

So, after seeing mention of this on a friend’s Facebook page (thanks Foxy!) I decided to add the info here so I can find it again easily, as this could be part of the solution for me. I already have a juicer, which I haven’t used for ages because it’s a pain in the arse to clean, but maybe I can enjoy drinking yummy juice enough to overcome my resistance to cleaning the damn thing. It’s an attachment that goes on top of my Kenwood mixer, which I’ve had since my wedding 32 years ago. I s’pose I could see how I like juicing then spring for a brand new shiny stand-alone juicer which might be easier to clean (?) …or maybe not. In any case, I just have to get healthy, regardless of what mechanical/electrical contraptions are involved. :D

Anyway, here’s the trailer for Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

…and links to the websites (which have the trailer on it but I like having it here too :D )

I love your blog and I just wanted to add something helpful!
Breville Juicer is the best – I highly recommend it. I suggest getting it from Amazon as well, you will get for the best price http://amzn.to/vZGpa9

This is my third juicing machine. My first was a Champion which served without problems for years. On the plus side it was powerful and durable. On the down side it was rather noisy, vibrated a lot and left a lot of juice in the pulp and was hard to clean. My second juicer was the omega screw machine which I still have. I bought it because it also did wheat grass. On the plus side it is quiet and juices anything, makes nut butter and extracts a lot of juice leaving very dry pulp. On the down side it is slow and worst of all the feed tube is really small. You have to do a lot of cutting to get things small enough to get into the feed tube. I pretty much only use it for wheatgrass now. The Breville is the best juicer I have had. It is an example of good product design in that it is simple, practical and attractive. It is powerful, has a feed tube large enough to take large whole carrots, beets and small apples. It is quiet, comes apart easy and cleans up quickly. The capture pitcher which nests into the machine has a nice cover so you can store the juice for later. If making juice is a hassle you’re going to put off doing it. This juicer makes juicing easy and not a hassle.

Thanks for the advice Krystal — I was considering a Breville as it looks fairly compact and is affordable. It certainly sounds like it’s easier to use than my juicer attachment that fits on top of my Kenwood mixer. That whole thing is very noisy, and it vibrates a lot and “walks” along the benchtop so it’s difficult to feed the fruit into it, hold it still and make sure the juice jug and the pulp bowl remain in place under the relevant spouts so there’s no spillage. I really need two more hands to operate the thing, LOL.
